Julie Geller of Denver’s women musicians’ Setting the Stage network

[We did not get this in time to run in last week’s newsletter.] This Friday (July 27th), in-between all the shows up and down South Broadway and the surrounding streets, Denver’s Hope Tank (the city’s female owned social impact store) will host Colorado’s first shesaid.so event. Founded by Andrea Magdalina with chapters worldwide, shesaid.so is a curated network of women with working roles in the music industry. The launch party, celebrating Colorado’s women in music, is in support of UMS, which is undoubtedly one of the biggest weekends of the year for local musicians and the industry alike.

shesaid.so’s vision fosters collaboration, creativity and positive values in what is often seen as a negative and misogynistic #MeToo world. shesaid.so can be seen as a whisper network for women or those who statistically haven’t been afforded the opportunities, resources, or visibility that others have in music and entertainment.

The event will host networking and a panel discussion about the music industry, comparing longstanding Red Rocks runs to being labeled the “dubstep capital of the US,” with a focus on opportunities for growth and insights into how to be more diverse and inclusive. Moderated by Lauren Kashuk, Ideaison founder, speakers will include Ming Lee Newcomb, Editor in Chief for Live for Live Music, Cassie Cowen, Owner of Plus One Music Consulting, and Leah Concialdi, Artist of Tnertle and Atomga.

“As a female who struggled to forge my own path and find my own place in the music business, I’ve relied heavily on shesaid.so’s global group as I‘ve faced obstacles. The network has been inspiring and instrumental to my personal and professional growth. This is what motivated me to bring it to Colorado—our music industry is one of the fastest growing in the region. I’m taken back by the amount of excitement it is already generating. Regardless of our titles or where we’re from, if we can get the right women in the room across disciplines and genres to discuss how we can support one another and grow, I know we’ll see an impact. And that’s powerful.” Kashuk claims.
