DMA Member & Board Member Dick Weissman (author of 17+ books on the business of music,  former professor to many, and musician extraordinaire) will present material on music publishing, placements in film and TV, the role of the AFM (especially in the Denver local), and the new world of record and music publishing royalties that the internet and social media have introduced. Dick will also provide a list of free internet resources. This is a free presentation and is open to the public.

‘FACING WEST’ TO COMPETE IN THE S.W. REGIONAL COUNTRY SHOWDOWN THIS SATURDAY

Congratulations to COMBO members Facing West (Caitlin & Sidney Powell) for winning the Colorado State Competition of the Country Showdown! The sister duo will now move on to the Southwest Regional Competition on Saturday, October 17th, 2015, at the Shuler Theater in Raton, New Mexico. The show is FREE and open to ALL AGES. And lots of FREE parking is available at the event as well!

COMBO members Kristi Hoopes (representing KVRH, Salida), and Rich Owen (representing KCRT, Trinidad) also moved onto the state competition. Only a few points separated the contestants who are judged by a nation wide judging system which includes Marketability in Country Music, Instrumental/Vocal Ability, Originality of Performance, Stage Presence / Charisma, and Talent. Bonus points are added for performing their own original songs as well.

COMBO also wants to thank ALL the radio stations and promotions managers for sponsoring the Country Showdown! What a wonderful opportunity for Colorado’s country, folk, and Americana singers/songwriters to showcase their talents!

ROAD TO MEMPHIS BENEFITS’ HAVE BEEN SCHEDULED

Now the fund raising to help raise money to offset the expenses for our IBC winners to go to Memphis begins! The first will be held this Saturday, October 17th. All three acts will perform alternating sets throughout the night.

There will be a silent auction – we’re accepting ‘auction quality’ items for both events, including gift certificates, CD’s, swag (t-shirts, hats, etc.). There will also be winning band items such as CDs for sale and MHBS Merchandise for sale to help offset the musicians expenses. Please plan to attend or make a donation.

MEMPHIS MUSIC HALL OF FAME 2015 INDUCTION CEREMONY – THIS SATURDAY, OCTOBER 17th, 2015!

The Memphis Music Hall of Fame aims to pay tribute to those Memphis icons whose enduring contributions to music are still inspiring and influencing people worldwide. Each spring, the MMHOF Nominating Committee goes through a grueling nominating process designed to select those artists and visionaries whose impact on music and pop culture merits recognition. Fortunately, the city of Memphis has a wealth of deserving individuals and groups who are worthy of consideration and the list just keeps growing longer! This year, Memphis Music Hall of Fame is excited to induct Alberta Hunter, Al Jackson, Jr., Memphis Slim, Scotty Moore, Charlie Rich, Sam & Dave, and Justin Timberlake. The event will be produced by Royal Studio’s Boo Mitchell with backing by the legendary Hi Rhythm Section, with appearances from previous inductees and local and national tribute guests. As always, this year’s ceremony is open to the public and promises to be a raucous event filled with live performances and tributes that will exemplify the unfettered spirit that made Memphis famous.

The 2015 ceremony will be held at the Cannon Center for the Performing Arts on October 17th beginning at 7:00 p.m.  All appearances are subject to change. Tickets are now available for $50-$100 through Ticketmaster or at 1-800-745-3000. We kindly ask that all attendees arrive on time, as doors will be closing promptly at 7:15. The Induction Process
Annual inductees into the Memphis Music Hall of Fame are selected by a prestigious Nominating Committee composed of nationally recognized authors, producers, historians and leaders in the music industry. The number of annual inductees, both performing and non-performing, may vary.

Each year, the Committee’s deliberations consider musical performers, producers, engineers & studio or recording industry professionals, writers, promoters, and radio professionals. They consider the group or individual’s relationship with Memphis, Tennessee, including extent of recording projects, musical impact within Memphis, city residency, and exceptional involvement within and/or influences drawn from the Memphis music industry.

TIME AGAIN FOR OTIS TAYLOR’S TRACE BLUES FESTIVAL

It has been another year, and Otis is once again having a concert and workshop at eTown in Boulder. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, November 7th. Tickets are available now at:

The daytime workshop is for musicians of all levels. For both workshops and the concert, people will learn from Otis and his band, special guests who are Colorado pros, and also banjo master Tony Trishka.
