Lionel Young (from the Colorado Blues Society’s newsletter)

Tuesday, December 4th , from 6:30 to 10:00 p.m. at the Rusty Bucket is Lionel Young’s IBC 101 designed to assist those acts that are participating in January at the International Blues Challenge (IBC) in Memphis to do their best. Lionel is the ONLY 2 time IBC winner in the history of the International Blues Challenge, representing the Colorado Blue Society while winning the 2008 Solo and 2011 Band competitions!

Lionel’s focus is on helping acts from Colorado to do well. It is strictly voluntary. Each act will perform a set limited to 20 minutes, like in the finals at the Orpheum Theater followed by interaction between them and a select panel of people who have participated in the IBC before or who were part of a group that were sent to Memphis by their respective blues society. Others who come out are also encouraged to speak up if they have something constructive to say. Most of the comments would be guided by the judging criteria and focused on helping the acts do better there than they would if they didn’t take part in this event.

From this, the acts will have honest, concrete and constructive feedback to plot a way to improve what they’re doing and maximize this opportunity. After the panel response we reserve some time to anyone that comes to participate if you have something positive to add. We especially invite those acts that have aspirations to participate in the IBC in the future to come check this out.
