About the Musicians:

Phil Wiggins was half of the internationally acclaimed acoustic blues duo “Cephas and Wiggins” for 30 years. George Kilby Jr. spent 20 years playing with and producing albums for the legendary pianist Pinetop Perkins of Muddy Waters band. Sherman Holmes was part of the Multi Award-Winning Soul/Gospel/Blues trio “The Holmes Brothers” for over 35 years.

Kilby and Wiggins began collaborating in 2011. Their work includes US, Canadian, and European tours and festivals, and a well-received recording. The musicians recorded and released Kilby’s song “You never see the hand throw the Stone” which tackles racism, religion, corruption and appears on the CD “Six Pack” (Top Frog Music). Their current collaborative material follows this path rather than recycle old blues themes, however classic they may be. Performing their material in honor of MLK day is very significant to the bi-racial trio. Themes such as police/race strife, forgiveness, and the environment are common in the new material that the artists are recording for an upcoming album.

Wiggins’ honors with Cephas include Carnegie Hall, Royal Albert Hall, the White House, and a seat on the National Council for the Traditional Arts. Kilby’s honors include 3 albums with Pinetop Perkins, a WC Handy Album of the year, and countless European and US tours.

With his former band, Holmes won the Blues Foundation’s Band of the Year (’05) and Album of the Year (’08) as well as a NEA National Heritage Fellowship (’14), the highest honor the US bestows on folk artists.

Says the Press of Wiggins and Kilby:
“Phil Wiggins’ honking/wailing/chugging/moaning blues harp…a cool showcase for Kilby’s fingerpicking work – but pay attention to the words. One trademark of Kilby’s originals is the use of a deceptively down-to-earth approach to lay some deeper-than-you-may-think wisdom on the table.”- Brian Robbins, Jambands.com

Says the Press of The Holmes Brothers:
“Timeless, deeply soulful and uplifting gospel-drenched blues, street corner doo-wop, ballads, R&B, country and funk.” –The New York Times

“Fervent, inspired and joyful blues, R&B, soul, roadhouse rock and gospel…beautiful harmonies, true magic.”–NPR

The mission of The Rock Awards is to honor musical achievements and support and grow the Colorado music community – to bring awareness to the public and the World of the special music family that resides in our beautiful state. The Ceremony will take place at another location than originally planned. Plenty of time to shift your travel plans!

The mission behind The Rock Awards is to build the music scene and expose everyone to the music that is in Colorado. When you only vote for musicians you are familiar with, you’re not learning anything about the other musicians we have in Colorado. All the nominees are played on Raven on the Rock. There is also a link to each of the musicians on the website.

The Rock Awards were envisioned in 2011 after Raven on the Rock local radio launched. Raven learned of the talented musicians in Colorado and was determined to grow the music scene. The original dream was for Rockin’ Raven Productions to pay for awards to show the musicians appreciation for what they put into their music. Four years of planning have gone into The Rock Awards. When the nominations were launched on February 24, 2015, the response was overwhelming.

We want this to be a positive uplifting experience for all Colorado’s hardworking and creative musicians, singer/songwriters, sound engineers, photographers, venue owners, studios, producers, and most important, the supportive Colorado fan base. Music makes the world go around and this is a celebration of exactly that!!! All previously purchased tickets will be honored, in full, to the original rules of the ticket. All nominees and their authorized guests will have free entrance and there will no longer be a $10 parking fee. Space provided… there will be $10 General Admission tickets available at the door.

Our deepest apologies for any recent mis-communication with this event. The change in venue will allow us to make this a more positive and intimate experience, as we hope to create special memories for all to enjoy!

To avoid any further mis-communication, please email your questions to: corporate@ravenontherock.com.

With the many inquiries already received, we are working hard to respond to everyone’s questions in a timely manner. Please be patient and we will get back to you, as soon as possible.

We really do cherish the music scene in Colorado and want to thank you, so much, for your continued support!!
