EVENTS: UMS 2019 Lineup Headlined by Honne, Chicano Batman and Black Mountain
By Ashley Dean, Denverite | The festival returns to South Broadway with more than 200 bands July 26 to 28. The very long list of ways to have a very good in the final weekend of July has arrived.
The Underground Music Showcase has announced its lineup for 2019. At the top: Honne, Chicano Batman, Black Mountain, Tuxedo, Earthgang, Still Woozy and Empress Of.
In order — and if I can be a little simplistic here — that’s electronic soul, psychedelic soul, psych rock, funk and soul, ATLien hip hop, dreamy indie pop and alt-pop-R&B. (Yes, folks, music is getting harder and harder to put a label on. Just go listen!)
Medium-sized-poster-font acts are Empress Of, Yves Tumor, DRAMA, Sophie Meiers, LEIKELI47, Y La Bamba, Gardens & Villa, William Elliott Whitmore, Miya Folick, Tessa Violet, Haviah Mighty, Liza Anne, Spooky Mansion, Greyhounds, Dressy Bessy, DBUK, SWSH, Kainalu, Jackie Mendoza, Clavvs, Rapperchicks, Rich Jones, Divino Niño, Parallelephants, Deezie Brown and Garrett T Capps.
And, of course, there are so many more. You can view the full slate of local acts — which at a glance includes YaSi, Sur Ellz, Ray Reed, Colfax Speed Queen and Church Fire — right here:
“UMS is a strong representation of all types of music,” UMS Event Director Tobias Krause said in a statement. “This year’s lineup of national and local bands was strategically designed to showcase the volume of musically talented individuals Denver has grown while also inviting some national acts to crash the party. Denver’s music scene is growing and shaping into something special, something worth putting Denver on the map as a nationally recognized ‘music city.’ We have put our heart and soul into ensuring UMS helps grow that positive image for all Denver artists while keeping the soul of this underground music community alive.”
As we learned back in January, the UMS is promising new outdoor stages, new interactive concepts and new stage locations for July 26-28 — though it’ll still be a South Broadway special.
Three-day weekend tickets are on sale now for $50. To get some, go to http://www.undergroundmusicshowcase.com/tickets.
