John Macy and Macy Sound Studios have been a mainstay in the Colorado music community since the late 1970’s.  Hundreds of Colorado and national artists have passed through the doors of the several studios John has built and operated over the years, from the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and Los Lobos to John Common and Danielle Ate the Sandwich.  Macy Sound Studios has always been known for their ability to meld together the latest in technology with the best in classic analog gear and a comfortable, creative environment.

We are pleased to announce the newest locations of Macy Sound Studios in the Denver area.  After spending the last few years in the studios we originally designed and built (formerly Kerr/Macy Studios and now housing Silo Studios), owner John Macy felt it was time for a change and teamed up with the Park House in Denver, adding a unique studio inside a music venue that not only allows studio recording and mixing, but has tie lines to the stage of the Park House for live recording and webcasts.  When the need became apparent for a second room, we recently acquired a space in SE Denver (ironically right across the street from our last location, with some recording history of its own), and Studio B is now ready for tracking and overdub sessions.  With a unique recording space in South Texas, strategic partners in markets such as Nashville, Memphis, Texas and California, as well as mobile and destination recording, Macy Sound Studios can fulfill any recording situation you can dream of.

Have a favorite place you like to record?  Need to record a live show?  We have complete mobile systems ready to meet any need, from a 32 channel system with a split snake for a live show, to customizing a system to fit any destination recording.

We have done live records from such venues as the Bluebird, Boulder and Gothic Theaters, to bringing custom, portable studios to an Aspen house to record the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and everything in between.

Ever want to disappear and record vocals at sea level with all that moisture laden and oxygen rich air?  Our Rockport, Texas location offers total seclusion in a house on Aransas Bay, just north of Corpus Christi.  Located right on the water, it features outstanding ambience, with guest quarters for up to six, a gourmet kitchen, and views that will inspire.

John Macy has been a mainstay in the Colorado music scene since he moved here in 1976 to play steel guitar with Michael Martin Murphey. A native of Lubbock, TX, John began his music career after high school around the studios in the Boston, MA area as well as playing on the road from D.C. to northern Ontario. After touring/recording stints with Murphey and Gary Morris, John decided to put studio roots down here, building his first studio in 1979 just outside of Conifer, CO. John also designed, built and operated other studios such as JMC Studios and Delgany Street Studios in the downtown Denver area, The Corner Studios in Wheatridge, as well as Kerr/Macy Studios, which evolved into Macy Sound Studios.

John has racked up some fairly diverse recording credits that run from The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band to Gladys Knight and the Pips to Richie Furay and Big Head Todd and the Monsters to Los Lobos and Matt Morris. He has several Gold and Platinum records, including a Grammy winner to his credit, and has worked on Emmy and Ace award winning projects.  He is also involved in many regional high profile projects like The Congress, John Common, Boulder Acoustic Society, Danielle Ate the Sandwich and many others.  He is as comfortable working with a seasoned Rock and Roll Hall of Famer as he is a budding singer/songwriter, and just might be the perfect fir for your next project.

John is always available for steel guitar sessions, and you might just catch him playing around town with acts such as Casey James Prestwood and the Burning Angels and The Railbenders…
