Congratulations to Lauren Brombert for being selected as First Place Winner in the Rock/Alt Category in the 16th Annual Great American Song Contest! Thanks to Chris K. for passing this wonderful news along on Facebook on March 31, 2015. Lauren stated that she was “Feeling ecstatic! And grateful! And very, very honored… to have been chosen!”

DMA MEMBER ANDREA MEYERS NAMED TO CMEA HALL OF FAME

Andrea Meyers, cellist and member of the Denver Musicians Association, has been named to the 2015 Colorado Music Educators Association Hall of Fame. Andrea retired as orchestra director at Rock Canyon High School. She had taught previously at Fairview and Ponderosa.  She has served as a guest conductor and adjudicator both in and out of Colorado, and has been very involved in ASTA.

She joins DMA members Byron Gillett,  Jess Gerardi,  Glenn Shull,  Steve Christopher and Dean Bushnell, who are also honored by being in the CMEA Hall of Fame.

KUDOS TO STEVIE NICKS FOR HER SERVICE TO OUR COUNTRY’S SOLDIERS

Stevie Nicks, along with 27 Medal of Honor recipients, was honored in Washington DC at the USO-Metro’s 33rd Annual Awards Dinner. Nicks was acknowledged for having spent the most hours visiting combat-wounded servicemen and women. The award was presented to Nicks by Cpl Vincent Mannion-Brodeur who was in a coma for over a year. Nicks has stayed in touch with Mannion-Brodeur and his family over the years as he continued his stunning recovery.

As part of USO Metro’s Celebrity Handshake Tour, Nicks also donated hundreds of iPods she personally programmed with music to the returning vets who she spent time with during their recovery at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Bethesda Naval Medical Center over several years.
