Quote of the Week|

This week’s Featured Lyrics are to “Love is All Around” by Sonny Curtis. See article under “Songwriters’ Corner”.

The Mary Tyler Moore Show opening sequence is an element of the American television series The Mary Tyler Moore Show. In 1999, Entertainment Weekly picked Mary Richards’ hat toss at the end of the sequence as the 1970s’ second-greatest television moment. The theme song, “Love Is All Around”, was written and performed by Sonny Curtis.

The sequence was created by Reza Badiyi who had also done the opening sequence for Hawaii Five-O. Badiyi came up with the idea for the final shot, which Entertainment Weekly ranked as the second greatest moment in 1970s television. An older woman can be seen in the background, obviously puzzled by the sight of a young woman tossing her hat in the air. This unwitting “extra” was Hazel Frederick, a lifelong Minnesota resident who happened to be out shopping the day the sequence was shot. Mrs. Frederick finally met Moore in 1994 when she was on a book tour for her autobiography, After All. Moore introduced Frederick as “my co-star”.

Lyrics to “Love is All Around” by Sonny Curtis

Who can turn the world on with her smile?
Who can take a nothing day, and suddenly make it all seem worthwhile?
Well it’s you girl, and you should know it
With each glance and every little movement you show it

Love is all around, no need to waste it
You can have a town, why don’t you take it
You’re gonna make it after all
You’re gonna make it after all

How will you make it on your own?
This world is awfully big, girl this time you’re all alone
But it’s time you started living
It’s time you let someone else do some giving

Love is all around, no need to waste it
You can have a town, why don’t you take it
You’re gonna make it after all
You’re gonna make it after all

HONORABLE MENTION

For the Women’s March, MILCK and AG wrote the song “Quiet”. While not yet a “hit’ song, a video of this song has been shared many times on internet video. The story of the song follows:

From Alma Har’el: These women are from different states and never met ‘til today. They practiced this song online. I was crying the whole time I filmed this. Show them some love. #WomensMarch #ANTHEM #Icantkeepquiet #TogetherWeRise

Second Day: Woke up to 2.5 million views! Hello world! I’m adding some more details here because everyone is asking in private messages and I can’t answer y’all but I’m so incredibly happy and thankful. So to answer… I’m a film and commercial director (www.almaharel.com) and was in the march to support women of all races around the world coming together and get heard. I did not know these women and the artist. I now found out she goes under the name of MILCK (http://www.Icantkeepquiet.org) and that she gathered women from all around the country to sing this #Anthem at the #WomensMarch . They practiced it online using Skype and they only met once before the march. Some met that day for the first time!

[Alma – the videographer – is very talented. Check out her work at http://www.almaharel.com]
