From Philo Sudberry on Fb, 8/28/18: Though I didn’t know any of the members, please keep Colin Michael who passed from the car accident and the rest of the band members who are still in the hospital and or sustained injuries in your thoughts and prayers. Sad day for the Colorado music community.

Joe Martinez sent this article explaining what happened:

Colorado Musician Killed in California Crash

Authorities identified the man who died as 30-year-old, Colin Michael Mulhern. Friends and family say he was a musician and will be greatly missed by the Colorado music community.

ELK GROVE, CA — One person was killed and six others are injured after a crash on I-5 in Elk Grove early Monday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

CHP says three of the passengers suffered major injuries and the three others have minor injuries. Officials say the accident happened shortly after 2:30 a.m. They say a van carrying seven people was hit by another car.

CHP says the driver of the car was arrested for allegedly driving drunk.

“We believe alcohol was a factor and she was arrested for DUI,” said CHP Sergeant Trevor Shields.

Authorities identified the man who died as 30-year-old, Colin Michael Mulhern. Friends and family say he was a musician and will be greatly missed by the Colorado music community.

“He loved people,” said his friend, Ben Weir. “He was trying to make a difference in the world with his music and making a positive difference with the lyrics that he wrote.”

Michael was in a band called “If I Fail,” but he was helping friends from a different band during their tour. CHP says their van was hit while they were driving northbound on I-5.

“It could have been prevented,” Weir added. “It’s just so senseless. It’s unnecessary. Drunk driving is absolutely the worst scenario and nobody deserves to lose their life. Especially so young. He was only 30 years old.”

Weir says the group was wrapping up their last set of shows and were heading back home to Colorado.

“When I found out Colin was in that van and he was the one running [merchandise] for them, it just shook me. It was horrible,” Weir said.

Weir hopes what happened to his friend will serve as a reminder to others ahead of the holiday weekend; a time in which officials say they tend to see more people driving under the influence.

“There’s no reason to drive drunk. There’s absolutely no reason,” Weir said.

A GoFundMe page has been setup for one of the band members who remain in critical condition. If you’d like to help, click here.

At 2:35 AM on August 27th the van that Patrick was riding in on tour was hit, taking the life of our friend Colin and putting Patrick into a coma. Patrick is currently in a Kaiser hospital and doesn’t have insurance through them which will cost a fortune in medical bills. We created this GoFundMe to help with the medical cost and support his family through this hard time. Let’s come together and do what we can to get this father of two back home.
Anything you can donate will be appreciated.
