A man who posed as the booking agent for acts like Migos, Lil Yachty, and Lil Uzi Vert was sentenced to three years and 10 months in prison Aug. 10 in a U.S. District Court.
Octaveon Woods, who was based out of Illinois, was found guilty of defrauding colleges (including Emory University and University of Missouri), festival organizers and others out of deposits for performances that never took place. He was ordered to pay $879,718 or less in restitution, with the exact amount to be determined in the coming weeks.
Woods was found guilty of creating websites for fake companies like “National Artist Agency,” purporting to represent the acts, creating big contracts, and then asking for 50 percent deposits for a booking. When the artist never showed, he would refer them to a fake attorney and give complainers the run-around.
Woods pleaded guilty to wire fraud in April and was arrested for violating bond in May, as prosecutors said he was still operating the scheme. He will have three years of supervised release after his prison term concludes.
