Eaton Rapids, Mich. (WILX) — An act of racial hatred destroys the art-work of an Eaton Rapids man this morning. “We are shaken up a little bit by it… it’s invasive,” says Steve Cowles, an Eaton Rapids home-owner.

Steve is an artist, painter, and a musician who has lived at his home for almost a year.

He doesn’t understand why someone would do this.

Steve made a frightening discovery in his garage when he returned home from playing music last night.

His garage door had been kicked open and his vehicles and garage windows were vandalized by spray paint.

“All of my paintings, my art work, had been destroyed with some pretty derogatory, hateful words,” he said.

“You don’t like to see it in your neighborhood,” mentions neighbor, Justin Johnson. “You don’t feel safe … since it is probably someone who lives in the neighborhood.”

Cowles hopes that the person or people involved are apprehended and justice is served.

Anyone with information about this vandalism, can contact the Eaton Rapids Police Department at 517-663-8118 or submit an anonymous tip at Crime Stoppers of Mid -Michigan at 1-855-840-7867.

From Steve: Last night my garage was broken into and a lot of my artwork was vandalized with spray paint. The Vandals wrote slanderous and racist words all over my paintings and tool chests. I am sick to my stomach. Our vehicles were also spray painted in black on the windows and doors. This happened in Eaton Rapids last night around 1 a.m. If anyone has any information that will lead to the arrest of this person or persons I would greatly appreciate it. Our 5 month old child was asleep in the house as this violation occurred and we are very shaken. Please help if you can.
