COMA Holiday Party!!
The Irish Snug, 1201 East Colfax Avenue (between Marion & Lafayette on the north side of the street) from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. The meeting will be held downstairs in the meeting room.

Dinner will be FREE for COMA members! Dig up your card now so you can present it at the door. For non-members the fee will be $10 but it will be a dinner well worth the price!
After dinner entertainment will be provided by Pairadeux (Elizabeth & Neil) and promises to be a really fun time. During dinner we will play the compilation holiday music CD made up for COMA’s use by Carmen Allgood from music submitted to her by local artists for her radio show, The Colorado Wave. This music is AWESOME and was enjoyed by all at last year’s party and the music is timeless so it will be thrilling to hear all songs again.

Topic of panel discussion will be: “Promotion & Display of Your Merchandise to Increase Sales
The Irish Snug, 1201 East Colfax Avenue (between Marion & Lafayette on the north side of the street) from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. The meeting will be held downstairs in the meeting room.
Panel topic will be on “Promotion & Display” – How to get more promotion for your band and how to display your merchandise so that it will sell and keep you in the “black” on your income statement! Guest speakers will be Steve Werges who started the Metropolitan College newspaper; Barb Dye, President of COMA; and Laura McGaughey, management and publicity director of U.S. Pipe and the Balls Johnson Dance Machine (courtesy of Charley Brand, vocalist extraordinaire and COMA Board member). Each speaker will take approximately 15 minutes to present their topic and a Q&A session will be held afterwards.

Ever wished you knew a LOT more about the music business? Ever want to know if there are other jobs involving music besides being a guitar player at your local nightspot? COMA's panel this month is on Educational Opportunities for the Musician in Colorado. Guest speakers will be Stan Soocher, UCD music department; Danny Masters, Aurora Community College; Tom Noonan, Executive Director, Colorado Contemporary Music College and Jason Olson, who teaches at UNC.

Holiday Party! Sunday, Dec. 12th, 2004, 6:00-close at the brand-new Bruno's, located at 8501 East Colfax (between Quebec and Yosemite, formerly Sportsfield Roxx). The menu will be: Roast Beef w/Aujus Sauce or Lemon Grilled Chicken; New Potatoes & Vegetable Medley, Salad, and Cheesecake, and tickets are only $10 for COMA Members and their guests, or $12 for non-member supporters, dinner included!

In Addition to being an experienced vocal instructor for the Department of Education with the Denver Center for Performing Arts, Nancy Harris is also an Award-winning performer, actress, singer and comedienne (for more information on programs and workshops: Programs and workshops click here.) This will be an excellent opportunity for everyone, whether you are a "singer" or not, to learn about using and protecting your voice in Colorado's thin and dry air, just in time for late nights in smoky bars during the winter! Sunday, April 18, 2004 at 5:00 pm, at The Oriental Theater (4335 W. 44th Ave, Denver 80212 - Click Address for Map). The meeting will start at 5PM with an hour of networking. Then at 6PM the topic will be the CMA CD Sampler Judging Panel. Join us as we have a panel of experts along with the Members and Non-Members in attendance rank the music we are considering for the CD Sampler. Those with the best rankings will be put on the sampler. This will also be your last chance to submit your song for the sampler, bring your CD along with the entry fee to the Oriental that night and you can submit up until the panel gets started at 6PM. Don't miss it.

In March we encourage everyone to attend the Ultimate Music eXperience at the The Soiled Dove (1949 Market St.) on Saturday, March 20th from 9:00 am to 6 PM and Sunday, March 21st from 10:00 am to 7:00 PM The UMX serves as a proving ground for musical artists to win a slot at the Annual CHUN Capitol Hill People's Fair. Approximately 60 acts will perform over the course of the weekend. Everyone is encouraged to attend and welcome to participate in the voting. CMA is a sponsor of this event!

The March monthly membership meeting for the Colorado Music Association has been cancelled. Due to the fact that the Ultimate Music Experience is the same night. With so many members of COMA and the music community participating in this great event we would like to encourage our membership to check out the UMX. The UMX is happening at the Blue Mule (1624 Market, below Crocs) on Saturday March 22nd and Sunday March 23rd. You can check out over 40 of Denver's best bands as they audition for spots in this years CHUN People's Fair. Be sure to get down there to support your favorite bands!

Panel to include: Bill Thomas (producer/engineer).....tons of experience with local bands as well as a huge local band supporter Mark Derryberry of Derryberry Audio (former staff engineer from Fanfare Studios) The meeting will end with a CD critique after the panel discussion and members can bring their demos marking the track they want played. Topics include what to look for in a studio, equipment used, rates, & tips for recording.

We will be collecting data from attendees intended to help us write our Mission Statement. This is your chance to be heard! All are welcome.

There will be a panel discussion among promoters/bookers of musical talent at various local venues and events, followed by a brief impromptu review session of randomly selected original music tracks. These will be off-the-cuff initial reactions, not detailed critiques. If you wish to submit a cut for review, bring a CD with a clear indication of which song should be played on it and drop it into the box that will be by the door.

Sunday, June 24, 2001 at 6:00 pm sharp, at The Soiled Dove (20th and Market Streets) in Denver. The featured speaker will be Jeff Campbell who will present a documentary about his "Get 2 Da Point" program recently spearheaded at George Washington High School, providing an example of how the music community can work with the schools to everyone's benefit. All are welcome and there is no fee to attend. This will be the last meeting under the current Board of Directors.

Sunday, May 20, 2001 at 6:00 pm sharp, at The Soiled Dove (20th and Market Streets) in Denver. Because the Westword Music Awards Showcases are being held on that same date and in the same area of town, the COMA meeting will be abbreviated and serve as a reception for the showcasers from 6 to 7 pm. It will be predominantly social in nature (although we'll likely cover a couple of quick items), with no buffet being served, and then we will adjourn so that we can all go out and demonstrate our support for live local music in person. Note fee in notice below.

Acclaimed author, music business professor and musician Dick Weissman will speak on "Denver's viability of as a valid music market" with a Question and Answer session to follow. There will also be an open forum discussion on the LIQUOR LAWS APPLICABLE TO ALL AGES VENUES in which everyone is encouraged to participate. After the meeting live performances will be presented as part of the Dove's Locals Launch Program, including those featuring Perpetual Motion, Harmony Road, Katoorah Jayne and Tommy Ventura. Everyone is welcome and there is no fee to attend.

The program segment will consist of a panel discussion with local radio industry personnel, including a question and answer session. Panelists will include Sharon Gatliffe (Radio 1190), Uncle Nasty (KBPI), Katey Wheelhouse (producer of local show on KTCL), and Howard Michalski of Radio Free Wazee. Following the panel discussion, there will be a brief review session of local music, wherein songs on CDs submitted by attendees will be randomly selected from a box by the front door where the appropriate track has been specified.

Sunday, February 18, 2001 at 6:00 p.m. at the Soiled Dove (1949 Market Street in Denver). Stan Soocher, author of "They Fought the Law: Rock Music Goes to Court," will speak about recent, cutting-edge music law cases, and how we might make use of the legal principles. Stan is Chair of Music and Entertainment Industry Studies at the University of Colorado at Denver, as well as an entertainment attorney and the long-time editor-in-chief of Entertainment Law & Finance. He will host a question and answer session and will sell and autograph copies of his book "They Fought the Law" after the presentation. There is no admission fee -- everyone is welcome. Local bands will play following the meeting, including Vivid Imagination, Al Gorgeous & the Barberium Lincolns and The Johnny O Band.
