InteGreat Rocks Battle of the Bands Poster

My name is Christina Anderson and I work for a non-profit in Eagle County, Colorado called InteGreat! Our main objective is to bridge the gap for underprivileged community members, specifically children; we’re most well known for our “summer lunches” where anyone under the age of 18 may come and get a hot meal during the summer when school isn’t in session and they can’t get free/reduced lunch.

This summer we are putting on our first ever big-scale fundraiser to support those efforts, and we are doing so in the form of a youth Battle of the Bands which we’re calling InteGreat! Rocks!. All bands must be between the ages of 13-24, with one member enrolled in school, and all music must be original. The battle begins with an online competition May 15th – June 4th to find the top three bands state-wide. Those top three will then have the chance to perform live on August 4th in Avon, Colorado at the Nottingham Park Pavilion.

You can check us out on Facebook (@youthbattleofthebands), on Instagram (@_integreatrocks) and at our website, http://www.youthbattleofthebands.org.

Applications are due on May 15th which is fast approaching. Please let anyone know who might like to apply, and if there is any struggle with the deadline please have them contact us directly by phone or email.

Thank you,
Christina Anderson and InteGreat!

Buyer Beware: Your Band Could Play Denver’s Massive Velorama Colorado Festival This Summer

In school, kids used to escape the crush of sporting competition by joining choir or jazz band. But thanks to a little thing called the battle of the bands, the rigors of head-to-head competition catch up with those choir kids years later when they are forced to go up against their fellow bards to see who could strum their pain more believably.

The latest battle of the bands-style competition comes in Velorama Colorado, the bike-and-music festival set for RiNo Aug. 11-13. Plotted around the Colorado Classic bicycle race, the festival is already bringing massive national bands like Wilco, Death Cab for Cutie, the New Pornographers, Saint Motel and La Santa Cecilia to perform live over the weekend.

Now, the festival is looking to book a local band to play on its final day, which it’s dubbing Colorado Music Day. To that end, festival promoter RPM Productions will host the Road to Velorama, a Sunday concert series that will showcase enterprising local bands that think they’ve got the chops to play Denver’s latest attempt at a huge music festival.

On select Sundays this June and July, Globe Hall and Larimer Lounge will present bills from local competing bands. Winners will be picked by audience votes and a panel of to-be-determined judges.

Think your Chumbawamba cover project has what it takes? You can submit your band for entry into the competition by emailing Tony Mason, the booking agent for the Larimer Lounge.

If you’re just looking to cheer on your buddy’s act, tickets to the shows are $5.

See the schedule of Road to Velorama concerts at the link below.

[Editor’s note: We’ve attached a Buyer Beware to this request as there will be a lot of competition and you will NEED to have a good-sized fan base. Even then, you may not win. But you can’t win the lottery if you don’t buy a ticket so have a good, long talk with your bandmates and make sure you’re willing to do the promotion and the work you need to win and that you are doing it for the chance to build your fan base.]
