Talent Needed|

Music fans in Denver are so spoiled. We have some of the most talented musicians in the world, more music venues than Austin and a governor who celebrates his inauguration with a concert featuring local artists. And he stands in the front row.

As Westword’s music editor, you get to see what makes the whole thing work. You meet people who prove that music communities have unusual powers, including building connections between Colorado and Haiti and helping the city’s homeless population start the day off with a little good cheer. And then you get to tell their stories, with the help of some of the best editors and music writers around.

Here’s your chance. After a little over six years working in some capacity for Westword (and its sister papers in St. Louis and Dallas), I’m moving on to a new career at the end of October. I’ll have a few more chances to write sappy love letters to the music scene here (and share my important thoughts on the likes of Miley Cyrus) before then, but for now we have a job to fill. All the pertinent details are here:

Westword has an immediate opening for a Music Editor to oversee coverage of Denver’s dynamic music scene. We’re looking for a journalist with excellent news judgment, a strong writing voice, sharp line-editing skills, a wide range of musical interests, and a passion for telling stories that engage and challenge our readers. Applications from candidates with experience covering (or editing) beats other than music are welcome and encouraged. In addition to writing and assigning weekly print features, the music editor is expected to bring a unique vision to our daily online music coverage and to maintain a strong social-media presence.

Westword offers competitive salaries and benefits. Interested candidates should send a cover letter, résumé and clips to:
