Thoughts and Prayers|

AURORA, Colo. — A man who was shot during a fight in a parking lot in Aurora Saturday morning died from his injuries. That evening, his friends came together to celebrate his life.

Friends and co-workers at The Emerald Isle on Parker Road in Aurora say 29 year-old Kelly Acosta was taken away too soon.

“He saved my bar,” The Emerald Isle owner, Melanie Calkins said. “Business was slow, he came in and brought it back. He touched the hearts of everyone that comes in the door. People come here for him, he’s got so many people that love him.”

The Emerald Isle did not plan on shutting down on Saturday, but they did so and invited only those who knew and loved Acosta. The parking lot was packed as hundreds of people swarmed to the place Acosta loved so much.

From the owner to the bar, to a friend living all the way across the country, Acosta was loved by many.

“Since I got the news I got on the first flight,” Acosta’s best friend Brittany Allen said after arriving from Nashville. “He is one of the most amazing people you would ever meet. He would do anything for anyone.”

Friends say that helping is what ultimately led to Acosta being shot. They say as he was getting home from work he heard an argument between a man and woman, tried to step in to help and was shot.

Police said they responded to the 4000 block of South Crystal Circle at 4:25 a.m.

Investigators said the man was transported to a hospital where he died.

They did not have any other information to release about what happened, including suspect description.

The Aurora Police Department asked anyone with information about this case to contact Sergeant Matt Fyles with the Major Crimes/Homicide Unit at 303-739-6041. Tipsters can also use Metro Denver Crime Stoppers by calling 720-913-7867. By using Crime Stoppers tipsters can remain anonymous and be eligible for a $2,000 reward.

Jason Abbott was asking for the donation of a generator to run a fund-raising benefit for Kelly.
I hope to see all of you at the benefit for Kelly Acosta Sunday the 26th. We have all the production and stage set up for the bands. The one item we need is a diesel generator. One that is quiet and designed for doing events like these. If anyone out there has a connection and would like to donate for this event please pm me. Thx. Everyone pls share this so we have a better chance of getting this equipment donated. Thx.

Scotty Brown: My dear friend Kelly Acosta singing with me at The Emerald Isle, sing now with the angels my friend love you always. (posted video of Kelly singing).

From Kelli Said: So many tears for Kelly Acosta! We are in shock, we are Mad, we are Heartbroken. So unfair to have such a great person stolen from so many people that loved him for just being him! We will never forget you wearing our shirt because you supported us, not because you were a fan of 80s music. ?? Thanks my friend for always having the Corona’s ready and the tequila chilled before we even got to the bar! We will never understand why this happened or accept it. Never Goodbye! Just We Will be seeing you on another day! Love to You and Everyone that Loves You!

From Danny Martinez, Jr. – Saddened. Kelly Acosta, you gave good hugs bro! You’ll be missed immensely…

Diane Robinson said he was a musician: Terrible tragedy in our music community. I’m sorry I didn’t personally know this young man but wish to extend my deepest sympathies and prayers to his family, friends and loved ones. He was murdered early this morning trying to save a woman who was being beaten. RiP, Kelly Acosta. Forever a Hero.
