AC/DC’s MALCOLM YOUNG REPORTEDLY SUFFERING FROM DEMENITA

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, AC/DC founding member and guitarist Malcolm Young is reportedly suffering from dementia and has been moved into a full-time care nursing home facility in Sydney.

Earlier this week, the band announced Young’s departure. “Unfortunately, due to the nature of Malcolm’s condition, he will not be returning to the band,” a statement from the band said. “AC/DC will undertake a world tour in support of ‘Rock or Bust’ in 2015. Stevie Young, nephew of founding members Angus and Malcolm Young, plays rhythm guitar on ‘Rock Or Bust’ and will accompany the band on tour.”

A source close to the Young family told the Herald: “If you were in the room with [Malcolm Young] and walked out, then came back in one minute later, he wouldn’t remember who you are. He has a complete loss of short-term memory. His wife, Linda, has put him in full-time care.”

Meanwhile, the band’s former manager, Michael Browning, told the AAP newswire (via the Australian): “I have friends that are still involved and they keep me posted so I have known for a little while. I think [Young’s illness] came on very suddenly.” He added, “It’s shocking, it’s terrible. Sadly for AC/DC they’re losing their creator, their mentor—he’s the genius behind the band.”

AC/DC was co-founded by Malcolm and his brother, Angus Young, in 1973. The band will release their new album, Rock Or Bust, this December.
