Colorado Music-Related Business|

COMBO’s president and fearless leader Barb Dye!

It is that time of the year when the Colorado Music Association, a/k/a the Colorado Music Business Organization – or COMBO – by its By-Laws – needs to open the board to additional members. We have a solid core group, most of whom have been serving on the board for several years, but its always nice to have a few more “new bloods” join us!

We generally meet on the first Sundays of the month (January, July and September excepted due to holidays) via telephone conference. That means you can stay at home with your family, in your P.J.s, and not have to go somewhere when you’re all settled in. We have (or have had) members from Pueblo to Fort Collins, Boulder to Elizabeth, with a few out-of-state consultants who call in every now and then.

We ask that you have a knowledge of the “business” of music in some way whether as a teacher, a performer, a sound engineer, an artist manager, a promoter, a radio personality, or whatever – just so you know what the term “music business” means! Also it would help if you can attend and help serve once in a while at one of our many educational functions: General meetings (usually not more than 4 times a year), seminars, workshops, or being able to go into the Junior and High Schools to talk about a career in the music business. We also have booths at various events like the Durango Songwriters Expo (coming up), the Steel Pan Drum Festival, the Guitar Show and Luthiers Expo, street festivals, and more.

Please submit your letter of interest to Barb Dye at President@ColoradoMusic.org. Let us know how you participate in the business of music and what you feel your qualifications are, and that you will commit to working with us for at least one year.

Since this is a volunteer position in a registered not-for-profit entity, there is no pay but the rewards can be great in making new friends, contacts, and those “who you know people” that all music people need. Besides, it never hurts to watch some young person run off from a booth at a high school with a new found reason to be playing their guitar and writing songs!
