Of all the taco joints in Denver… you might want to walk into the new Illegal Pete’s location at 2001 East Colfax Avenue, which is opening this week with festivities that include not only food but local music.

The big opening day is Friday, May 13, when the restaurant opens at 7 a.m. and closes at 2:30 a.m. You could eat every meal of the day (including happy hour) at Pete’s, but you can also stick around for an after-party at 11:30 p.m. with the band 888. The Denver band, which won the 2015 Hometown for the Holidays contest put on by 93.3 KTCL and is performing on the main stage at this summer’s Westword Music Showcase, will be spinning records at Pete’s after its show at the Bluebird.

On Saturday, May 14, the grand-opening parties continue with giveaways and drink specials. In the evening, the music starts up again with Mile High Soul Club (Westword’s Best Club Night 2014) spinning records from 6 to 9 p.m.

From 9 p.m. to midnight, Chris Dismuke performs, and becomes, according to a release, the “first artist in the world to have played every Illegal Pete’s (including Tucson)!”

We know you’re going mostly for the tacos and drink specials, but Illegal Pete’s is one Denver institution that tends to its local artists and musicians and seems to have its hands in everything — except, of course, your guac.
