The Denver Open Media building at 700 Kalamath Street, Denver

[Editor’s Note: Listening to 92.9, DOM’s new radio station in Denver, I heard an announcement regarding what is happening with Denver Open Media since Denver decided to no longer sponsor this wonderful business. I wrote to Tony Shawcross and Ann Theis at Denver Open Media and this is Ann’s response:]

We have reached an agreement in regards to the City-owned equipment at Denver Open Media. Except for about half of the Learning Lab iMacs and Laptops, and 25% of the field equipment, we will keep the rest! In terms of equipment and studios, this means that we will largely be intact, remain open for members, and honor your memberships.

Although we will now own that equipment, we will also be responsible for maintaining it with NO FUNDING from the City for repairs, replacements, or staff time to maintain it. This means that:

● Membership Rates and Plans may change in 2019 (more info coming soon)

● Equipment and Studio check-ins and out will have to be more detailed, damaged or missing items will mean those items will not be available for future rentals (unless we recoup the fees for the damage or missing items – which will be the goal 100% of the time)

● We cannot guarantee an item will be available if it is lost, damaged, or broken

● DOM will be looking for ways to increase paid rentals of equipment and studios (so if you know any comedians, musicians, artists, or anyone else looking for a great space to host an event with recording capabilities, let us know)

● Business hours DOM is open may be subject to change (more info to come)

What DOM will no longer be providing:
● Cable TV Distribution (live or recorded)
● New $500 Film School Passes
● Completely Free access to Field Equipment

What DOM offers that the City doesn’t:
● Memberships to all, regardless of proof of Denver residency, or State-issued IDs
● Performance Space
○ Music
○ Comedians
○ Live Audience Space for over 60 people
○ Green Screen Studios

● Editing onsite
● Commercial reservations
● Radio distribution
● A wide array of classes
● Community or meeting space
● Livestream and on-demand video
● Free parking
