FUNDRAISER FOR JOHN ALEX MASON SCHOLARSHIP FUND AT SOILED DOVE UNDERGROUND ON FEBRUARY 22nd
The Colorado Blues Society has put together a special show to benefit the John-Alex Mason Scholarship Fund. The legacy of John-Alex Mason’s music is an essential part of Colorado Blues History. Please join us for this amazing event, headlined by the Cedric Burnside Project from Mississippi, as we celebrate the memory of John-Alex on Sunday, February 22nd. Held at the beautiful Soiled Dove Underground in Denver – all seats are reserved – so get yours early for what promises to be a celebration of one of Colorado’s own!
CBS has a youth scholarship fund that we set up in memory of John Alex Mason. The monies are given to young people to attend various music and blues related camps. We have awarded scholarships for kids to go to the Pinetop Perkins Foundation’s summer camp/workshop, the Otis Taylor Trace Blues Workshop, and a few others as well. The kids can chose anything, local or national, so long as it relates to the blues.
This will be an acoustic blues show with some interesting pairings – the tentative lineup has Dan Treanor & Randall Dubis; Erica Brown, MJ and Michael Hossler; Nic Clark, Andy Sydow and Curtis Hawkins; Dr. Izzy, Robert Morrison and Richard Yale; Rex Peoples & Jack Hadley; Eef & Stacey Turpenoff, and possibly more.
John-Alex was a huge believer in getting our youth involved in blues and music and his scholarship continues that belief today. Doors open at 1:00 p.m., and the show starts at 2:00 p.m.
When: Sunday, February 22nd
Where: Soiled Dove Underground, 7401 East 1st Avenue (see directions below) 303-366-0007
Time: Doors at 1:00; show starts at 2:00 p.m.
Cost: $12 in advance; $15 day of show
Ages: (call venue to confirm but probably…) 21+
(The Soiled Dove Underground is “in the basement”, below The Tavern at Lowry, a restaurant & sports bar, in a building located on the far east side of a shopping area just north of Alameda and east of Quebec. The building is also just south and east of the Albertson’s grocery store. “Front doors” and signage are on the west side of the building so you may not easily see them).
Thanks, and hope to see you soon.
