Gigi Johnson, Amplify Music: 5 Changes Transforming Local Music Communities

Presented by Amplify Music, Gigi Johnson and Storm Gloor will share their insights on the 5 changes that have been transforming local music communities over the past year and that may bridge to new change in 2021 and beyond. Learn about the adventure of building Amplify Music 2020 and 2021 (April 21-23), two virtual conferences to bring together different music communities to share insights in what is happening in their own space and places.

This talk will be presented on Tuesday, March 2nd starting at 4:00 p.m. EST (Toronto) (2:00 p.m. in Colorado). There is no charge for this informative presentation!

Gigi Johnson, Amplify Music:
Dr. Gigi Johnson runs the Maremel Institute and the nonprofit Rethink Next. She co-leads April’s Amplify Music 2021 virtual conference, continuing the 2020 25-hour virtual conference. She produces the “Creative Innovators” podcast and its NextCareer.me programs. She continues her 21 years of teaching at UCLA, running programs around industry transformation. She holds an EdD from Fielding Graduate University, an MBA from UCLA Anderson, and a BA in TV production from USC.

Storm Gloor, University of Colorado Denver:
Storm Gloor is an associate professor in the Music and Entertainment Industry Studies department of the College of Arts and Media at the University of Colorado Denver. He is the recipient of the university’s 2018 Excellence In Teaching award. In 2014, professor Gloor developed and instructed what is considered to be the first Music Cities higher education course. Along with that course, professor Gloor teaches Music Marketing and oversees the internships for the College of Arts & Media. As part of the First Year Experience program at CU Denver, he teaches a course on the Beatles. Professor Gloor is also a Faculty Fellow in the Center for Faculty Development, is the immediate past president of the Music and Entertainment Industry Educators Association, and serves as a city councilman for Glendale, Colorado.

Darryl Hurs, Indie Week, CD Baby:
Darryl Hurs has a 25+ year history in the music business including launching and running one of Canada’s largest indie music festivals and conference, Indie Week. Recently hired as the director of market development for CD Baby in Canada. Past positions include design and branding/marketing for Live Nation as a freelancer (projects included a corporate rebrand and logo design, launching VIPNATION.com, work for U2, Nickelback, Madonna, Beyonce, Jay-Z and Dave Matthews) retail buyer at HMV, and booker for one of Toronto’s top live music venues (The Rivoli).
