About AJE:

Steven Ray Fitzgerald, drums and percussion: Steven’s musical career has taken him around the world. Having performed for audiences big and small. From Presidents and Princesses to sports crazed bar patrons he has seen it all. Feeling comfortable in ballrooms, on concert stages or the corner bar allows Steven to always bring his best performance. He is a master at laying down a smooth groove, using dynamics and a solid tempo to bring listeners and dancers into the musical experience. They say your group is only as good as your drummer and Steven proves it by lifting every ensemble he plays with. If he’s on drums you can expect a great night!

Gary Dean Smith: Gary developed his diverse musical background honestly. His teenage years in the South gave him a healthy dose of The Allman Brothers Band that created the framework. Moving back to his birthplace of Los Angeles at the age of 20, he was fortunate to have a variety of teachers and influences. His biggest influence came by spending time with jazz great, Joe Diorio. Joe taught Gary about musical approach and technique, but Gary says that by simply sitting and having coffee with Joe, he gained an understanding of creative thinking and humility that is impossible to learn from any book.

Spencer Pyne: I’m a devotee of all things low frequency. Most specifically the beauty, wonder, sound and thunder of the Bass Guitar… I have had one in my hands for pretty much as long as I can remember and, with the notable exception of my wife and daughter, they are my most favorite things. I can be having a really rotten day but if I somehow manage to pick one up and slap, spank or pluck it, I always feel much, much better. So this is where you will find out all about my love for the Bass and for music in general. I will tell you about my varied musical projects both past and present as well as the many talented people who have helped me to achieve my personal musical goals. Music is a mystical and powerful thing that affects all of us in ways we probably don’t even realize. I’ve always known it was my muse…. I have played just about every kind of music there is and I developed an early appreciation for all them. As a young trombonist I played in orchestras, concert bands and jazz combos. As an acoustic guitar player I have been in folk and country groups. And as a bassist, I have done everything from a three piece power rock trio to full blown seven piece contemporary country project.

Donald Young: Donald Young is a Colorado native and graduate of Ft Lewis College in Durango, CO (BA Music), and has over 30 yrs. experience as a professional keyboardist and multi-instrumentalist. He has played with some of Denver’s best musical groups, including Hot Lunch and The Freddi-Henchi Band, and has toured extensively in the western U.S. and the Pacific Rim. In addition to opening for National Recording Artists such as KC & the Sunshine Band,The Temptations, Sir Mix-a-Lot and saxophonist Eric Darius, Donald is also the first-call keyboardist for some of the region’s finest jazz artists like Dotsero, Dee Lucas and Gregory Goodloe. He is also a composer, arranger and session musician.

Phil Reyes: Phil has been playing around the Denver area for many years. He studied Music Theory and Arranging at Berklee Colege Of Music in Boston and Music Education at Metro State In Denver. He considers the diverse music and artists he’s played with to be his real education. Striving for bebop phrases or working with a blues band, Phil is able to add his own style and musicianship to any project
