Please join us to remember those we’ve lost from AIDS. Music and special speakers. Join us virtually for the 38th Annual International AIDS Candlelight Memorial. The Interfaith AIDS Coalition (IAC) has held an annual observance of this event in conjunction with BCAP since 1992. Candlelight AIDS Memorial programs will be held on the same date in many communities throughout the United States , as well as in cities and towns across the world.
This year’s virtual program will include the reading of names of local people who have died of AIDS-related complications, poetry of remembrance, music, and reflections by members of various faith communities. Local singer/guitarist Laurie Dameron and harpist Susan Conceicao will provide music. Members of the IAC, representing the Boulder Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, First Congregational Church of Boulder, Grace Commons Church, Congregation Har HaShem, the Islamic Center of Boulder, St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, and the Unitarian Universalist Church of Boulder are participating in the program. The program will last about one hour and will be followed by an opportunity to join small, randomly selected, groups of attendees to talk briefly and informally with each other following the program. All are invited to join.
On the third Sunday in May each year, millions of people light candles to honor those who have died of AIDS-related complications and demonstrate their solidarity with people living with HIV. Since 2011, the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial has been coordinated by Global Network of People Living with HIV (GNP+). It is considered an important effort that brings together people in more than 100 countries. The event helps raise social conscience about HIV and AIDS, and highlights the importance of HIV prevention, treatment, and support.
