Music management

Special guests attorney Dave Ratner of Creative Law Network, managers Nate Meese and Rachel Miller of 7s Management, and Tracey Chirhart of TAC Management will be speaking on the subject of “Artist Management: What is It and When do You Need a Manager?” on Monday, Feb 22nd starting at 7:30 p.m. via Zoom. The meeting will be moderated by COMBO Board Member and manager of The Hollow and Chew Fu Angela Whaley.

Join us for an in-depth discussion with guests, David Ratner from Creative Law Network, Nate Meese and Rachel from 7S Management, and Tracey Chirhart from TAC Management as we discuss the responsibilities of a manager, what an artist/band should look for it a manager, and the current music climate and what our guests think of the future of management. The meeting will be moderated by COMBO Board member Angela Whaley who manages artists Chew Fu and The Hollow.

David Ratner
Following a career in the music businesses as a tour manager, publicist, band manager, and founder of his own management agency, Dave Ratner is now the lead lawyer at Creative Law Network, a boutique entertainment law firm in Denver. Dave counsels clients throughout the music industry on everything from contracts and licensing, to intellectual property registration and protection, to dispute resolution. He is a graduate of Cornell University and the University of Denver College of Law. Dave has taught entertainment law and copyright law at the University of Denver College of Law. He is Secretary of the Entertainment & Sports Section of the Colorado Bar Association, Advisory Committee Chair of Colorado Attorneys for the Arts, a founding board member of the Colorado Independent Venue Association, and speaks frequently on entertainment law issues throughout the country.

Rachel Miller
Rachel Miller is an artist manager and drag performer living in Denver, CO. A graduate of CU Denver’s Music Business program, they first began their career working with the GRAMMY nominated band DeVotchKa as a Day-To-Day Manager & Tour Manager, before joining the 7S Management family in 2015. When not working, they can be found performing in venues across the country as a drag entertainer (under the stage name of Brody Danger), daring audience members to rethink gender norms, while also serving as a symbol for all those who dare to be different. Nate Meese
Nate Meese is an artist manager, musician and designer living in Denver, Colorado. Since moving to the mountains from his hometown of Cleveland in 2005 he has played guitar, bass and keys in a number of bands including Meese, Churchill and Tennis. He has been managing bands for 7S Management since 2014, except for a 14 month hiatus when he was Nathaniel Rateliff’s guitar tech. When not working, he enjoys riding his bike and cooking green chili. He lives with his wife Sarah and their two dogs, Sam and Beans, in Capitol Hill.

Tracey Chirhart
Tracey is the founder of TAC Music Management, an artist management service in Englewood, CO. Tracey has worked in various aspects of the music industry including radio DJ, promotions, and marketing at Polydor/Atlas & Capitol Records, and sales at a New Age music distributor/ label. After an 8 year career as a Northwest Airlines flight attendant, Tracey returned to Colorado where she began booking local artists. In 2017 she expanded services with an emphasis on artist management and formed TAC Music Management to help artists navigate the music business. Tracey currently manages Colorado artists Sammy Dee Morton and the Remus Tucker Band as well as New Zealand’s Hybrid Blues and continues to assist with booking and marketing local and national musicians. Tracey is a board member at the Colorado Music Business Organization (COMBO), a member of the Music Managers Forum, Music Business Association, International Singer Songwriters Association (ISSA) and NARIP (National Association of Record Industry Professionals) and holds an MBA in music business from SNHU/ Berklee College of Music.

Angela Whaley
Angela’s passion is blending music, wellness, and social good. Angela has spent 10+ years leading fundraising and digital marketing strategies with brands including HBO, AT&T, NFL, American Red Cross, Entertainment Industry Foundation, Comic Relief/Red Nose Day, plus assisting talent and management for Alicia Keys, Demi Lovato, Scorpions, and others, to successfully implement fundraising technology and strategies on tour. Angela has been a board member of COMBO for 12+ years, co-founded both Rocky Mountain Music Relief and Music Minds Matter in 2017, and is currently working with Chew Fu and his team to roll out his “Legendary EP.” Angela became a Mental Health First Aid instructor in 2020.
