DENVER ECLECTIC CONCERTS PRESENTS A “NOT XMAS” CONCERT

Denver Eclectic Concerts presents its traditional “Not Xmas” concert, featuring masterful musicians Barbara Hamilton and Paul Primus on viola and violin Thursday, December 3rd , 7:00 p.m., at Cameron Church, 1600 South Pearl Street in Denver’s historic Old South Pearl District.

This concert is a joint presentation by Denver Eclectic Concerts and the Colorado Chamber Players, and features works by two of the most prolific and important Russian composers in the 20th century: Dmitri Shostakovich and Sergei Prokofiev. Both composers made very different choices about their lives, countries of residence and careers. Though the two were friends and colleagues, each developed his own unique musical style coming out of the same Russian traditions. Featured in this program is Prokofiev’s exuberant Quintet in G Minor, originally commissioned for a small ballet company in Paris.

Barbara Hamilton and Paul Primus founded the Colorado Chamber Players (CCP) and are its directors. Barbara served as principal violist with the Eastern Music Festival from 1990 to 2005. She has played as principal violist and soloist with the Colorado Symphony, the Orquesta Ciudad de Barcelona and the Orquesta de Valencia (Spain). She has also been a member of the New York Philharmonic. Paul performs frequently with the CCP, and can be heard on Colorado Public Radio. He has performed numerous unaccompanied violin recitals over the years, most memorably one of the complete Paganini Caprices.

General Admission tickets are$18 in advance, $20 at the door. For an added dash of class, assorted cheeses and beverages are available.

DENVER OPEN MEDIA’S ANNIVERSARY PARTY THIS FRIDAY, DECEMBER 4th

On the first Friday of each month, DOM hosts a community event with local performance groups, musical acts and nonprofit partners. These events are broadcast live on Comcast Channel 57 in Denver as well as streamed on DOM’s website.  Events are cablecast and streamed live in Denver Open Media’s Studio A.

Join DOM for this month’s Open Music Sessions as part of the Open Media Foundation Anniversary Party on Friday, December 4, featuring a live musical performance by Chimney Choir.

Chimney Choir is a group of talented multi-instrumentalists with an old-timey sound. They have the usual roots of Americana and folk, but the character of their melodic folk sound hinges largely on a skillful balancing of freaky vocal interplay with computer synths, traditional acoustics and kitchen sink percussion.

The Anniversary Party begins at 7 pm, with the live show and concert beginning at 8 pm. Join us for this FREE event, complete with food and drinks!

When: Friday, December 4
Where: Denver Open Media Studios, 700 Kalamath Street, Denver, CO
Time: Doors open at 7:00 p.m. – Live Show 8:00 – 9:00 p.m. / After Party until 10:30 p.m.

This is a free, celebratory event for all ages! With food donated by Illegal Pete’s, Noodles & Co, and Cosmo’s Pizza, come early to grab a plate and watch OMF’s Open Music Sessions with the band Chimney Choir starting at 8:00 p.m.

During the evening, we will present the Independent Voice of the Year Award to Jamie Laurie of the Flobots. Independent Voices Awards will also go to Creating Transitions and the Colorado Education Initiative. For Denver Open Media producers, we will also announce this year’s Top Rated Show and the producer with the Most Content Submitted.

It’s OMF’s biggest event of the year, and we want you to be a part of it! Donations will be accepted at our food and beverage stations.

I am reaching out to you here on behalf of our upcoming December 27th show, which involves a premiere performance of the newly-formed ensemble “Grande Orquesta Navarre.” The event takes place at Baur’s Listening Lounge in downtown Denver. The ensemble is made up of former members of the acclaimed tango ensemble Extasis, and includes well-known musicians Susan Cahill of Eclectic Concerts on double bass, Evan Orman on bandoneon, Tom Hagerman of Devotchka on violin and accordion, and Sara Parkinson on piano. This is a Salon Orchestra created to present new transcriptions of classical music with a gypsy twist, some tango favorites, plus original works by members of the group.

This exciting premiere is a joint production of Denver Eclectic Concerts and Music Appreciation Society (the not-for-profit concert presenter at Baur’s). The event will no doubt make a preferred  fab Sunday evening show at a classy vintage Denver establishment, in-between Christmas and New Year’s.
