National women’s music group Womxn Crush Music will be presenting a showcase on Thursday, October 29th (tonight) at the Mercury Café, 2199 California Street, Denver, CO 80205 | 303-294-9281. The showcase will feature Jenny LaJoye, Bianca Mikahn, and Teresa Suydam. The show starts at 7:00 p.m.

Jenny LaJoye
Jenny LaJoye is a folk/pop singer songwriter, violinist, and vocal loop artist in Denver, CO who believes everyone is made of the good stuff. They make music to remember what it means to be human, to find connection in a time of disconnection, and to feel something in a world gone numb.

Jenny’s first EP, “We’ve Been That Way Before,” was recorded in Nashville, TN and released in 2014, winning the WYCE Jammie Award for Listener’s Choice: Album of the Year. They released their first solo acoustic album, “Vapor,” in 2015 with and for their friends and community in Grand Rapids, MI. LaJoye’s most recent album, “Altars,” was released in Denver, CO in February 2018. Theologically bent, “Altars” features full-band arrangements of songs Jenny performs with a vocal looper.

Jenny is currently living, writing, and performing in Denver, trying to longboard, and probably talking about their cat, Montgomery. They spend the rest of their time curating a small live music listening room for local and touring songwriters in Lakewood, CO called “The Chimney Place.”

Biana Mikahn
Bianca Mikahn is an emcee, poet, digital composer, cultural activist and educator. She is Executive Director of youth mental health-based organization Check Your Head and a Partner Artist with leading creative educators, Creative Strategies for Change and Youth on record. Bianca’s writing style is described as fanciful yet pragmatic, fearlessly addressing themes of self-awareness, mental health and community engagement. Explorations in music production recently garnered Mikahn the title of “Best Avant Garde Band” from Denver Westword. She has shared stages at Regis University, Denver University, La Napoule’s renowned Chateau in Nice France and Stockholm Sweden’s historical Fylkengin (Fill-ken-gin) Theatre. Currently Mikahn is honing social emotional learning and art-based facilitation to encourage trauma informed care and Mental Health First Aid (adult and youth modules) in marginalized communities.

Teresa Suydam
Teresa Suydam is a singer-songwriter from Denver, Colorado. She has graced the stage with the vocal group Lark, soulful R&B band Emma Mayes & The HIP, as well as electronic production duo Mom N Dad. Using her versatile voice, Teresa can reach the most graceful high notes and control strong, emotional low notes, while also being able to hit the dynamic runs and belts of a modern soul artist.

Taking all she has learned and pulling from a unique blend of inspirations, notably animé, K-pop, and video game scores, Teresa has created a rare musicality that blends East and West.

Teresa has recently released a single and a music video, titled, “Take Me To the Water”, that features ASL translations in an attempt to make music accessible to people of all backgrounds and abilities.
