By Estaban L. Hernandez, Denverite | First Friday Five Points Jazz Hop starts next week! Local jazz musicians will get a chance to showcase their talents with a new concert series called First Friday Five Points Jazz Hop launching in January 2020.
The series was created by the organizers behind the city’s Juneteenth celebration, Norman Harris and Christopher Banks. Banks said they’ve been working on this program since the last Juneteenth celebration. The program is sponsored by Denver Arts & Venues, KUVO, The Drop and Five Points Development Corporation.
“We’re trying to keep the jazz vibe in the Five Points community alive while bringing the community together at the same time,” Banks said. “It’s going to be awesome. Every first Friday, you’ll be able to see local jazz musicians, R&B bands.”
Local artists will be chosen every month to play at various bars and restaurants along Welton Street. Multiple bands will play at several venues throughout the night, giving people the chance to “hop” between them to check out a new band. The shows are all free and open to the public.
The first set of concerts takes place on Jan. 3. The three shows include:

● Tenia Nelson Trio at Dunbar Kitchen & Taps (7 p.m.)
● Vashti Jazz at Goed Zuur (8:30 p.m.)
