How many of you remember Friday night poetry at Brother Jeff’s Cultural Center & Cafe? The progenitor of Black poetic proliferation in Denver. Brother Ansar cooking in the kitchen Catfish, Whiting Fillets, Chicken tenders, Fries and a drink for $7. There would not have been Cafe Nuba or Slam Nuba without it. A hub for so many artists who went on to do amazing things. It’s time for a reunion of the people who were a part of Denver’s Black cultural artistic hub, that served as our “Harlem of the West Renaissance”. January of 2020, we will be reenacting the night in a short stage play, as a part of the Recipe Project, inside the Savoy building in Curtis Park 2700 Arapahoe St. It’s going to be a lot of fun.

Emmanuel Dewberry will play Bro Ansar and I will be playing Bro Jeff Fard. We want the original poets to come thru and do a poem just like back in the old school, to re create that feeling. Shah Love, QuiAnna Ray, Cajardo Lindsey, Hasira Ashemu, Chet W. Sisk, Panther, aka Zsudayka Nzinga Terrell, Holly H Kai Peterson Hurd, Helen Littlejohn, Simone-Elise Charles, Ietef Cavem Vita, Amadeo Miera, DJ SD aka Nathan Deejaysd Williams, Millete Birhanemaskel and any other folks that were a part of the era that I didn’t mention. If you weren’t a part of that era of poets, and you still want to come thru, please do. We’ll show you how it used to get done in the 5280.

The performance will run January 9 – 19th, Thursday thru Sun, with 2 shows on Sunday. Please let me know if you want to be a part of it.
