DIY videos

THIS MONDAY! We are SO EXCITED about this program and our VERY SPECIAL guest speakers! Now is YOUR chance to learn from experienced directors and to get the lessons straight from the “horse’s mouth!” Confirmed speakers are Nigel Dick, director of such famous videos as Guns ‘n Roses’ “Sweet Child of Mine,” Britney Spears’ “Baby One More Time”, and Pussycat Dolls’ “Stickwithu”; Dylan Owens, writer for Billboard and Rolling Stone and has produced and directed videos for The Denver Post, Red Rocks and dozens of musicians; and
Miró (she/her), the visual director for LA-based indie-pop group TANGERINE who is well-known for their DIY approach to their music videos, taking control of every aspect of the process from directing to editing and shooting. Our moderator will be COMBO Board member Jamie Krutz a Colorado-based writer, performer, composer and creative video producer. Jamie creates rich, compelling media productions for a variety of clients.

Join us on Monday, June 21st at 7:00 p.m. via Zoom (or phone) as we take a look at affordable ways to make a music video of your song that gets attention, “likes”, and “followers”.

Bio: Miró (she/her) is the visual director for LA-based indie-pop group TANGERINE with her sister Marika and their good friend Toby, as well as an English Major at UCLA, and a poet. Over the years TANGERINE has grown to favor the more DIY approach to their music videos, taking control of every aspect of the process from directing to editing and shooting. The band has created “Local Mall,” “Cherry Red,” the mini-Instagram clips for “Chains,” and finally “The Coldest Winter” which Miró took the lead on creating and executing this year. The band currently has a string of songs and videos in the works which will be released in the coming year.

bio: Dylan Owens writes for Billboard and Rolling Stone and has produced and directed videos for The Denver Post, Red Rocks and dozens of musicians (Esme Patterson, Neoma, Unusual Demont, Babelord and more). As a former baby model, Dylan peaked early, but is plotting a comeback from his newly adopted hometown of Los Angeles.

Award winning, British born, film-maker Nigel Dick has directed over 380 music videos and more than 35 documentaries & feature films. He has won 3 MTV awards, 2 Billboard Awards and 3 MVPA awards. His videos have been nominated for a further twenty- one MTV awards, twenty-six Much Music Awards, a Grammy and won one Brit Award. His many personal nominations include a Cable Ace Award. He was awarded a second Lifetime Achievement Award by the MVPA (Music Video Producers Association) in May 2012.

In his career Nigel has been responsible for some of the most influential videos in music video history: Sweet Child O’ Mine, Welcome to the Jungle, Paradise City – all by Guns n’ Roses; Champagne Supernove by Oasis, Believe by Cher, and Opps, I Did It Again by Britney Spears. In October 2007 two of Nigel’s videos, Wonderwall by Oasis and Baby One More Time by Britney Spears, were voted into the top 15 music videos of all time in the United Kingdom.
