No extensions! The Colorado Music Business Organization announces its Third Annual  Songwriting Contest! Winning songs will be submitted to publishing companies, music supervisors, and more. We’ll also be putting all entrants names in the hat (literally) and will be drawing one name for a FREE ENTRY to this year’s DURANGO SONGWRITERS EXPO at the Omni Interlocken Hotel & Resort in Broomfield, October 1st – 3rd. Only $10 per song to enter – dues-paying members get one entry FREE! Read on because this contest is for YOU!! Individual members who are currently up on their dues may submit one song at no charge; bands get free entry for two songs. The contest started May 1st and ends August 31st, 2015.

COMBO will put the top scoring songs on a compilation CD and hand deliver to publishers, music supervisors, record company people, and producers that have agreed to accept them, along with a cover letter telling a little about COMBO and about each of the songs, like who the writers thought the song might be good for, i.e., this country song might be good for Carrie Underwood.
Also, the entry fee must be paid by the end of the contest and received by September 5th, 2015.

Songs are to be submitted as attachments to songcontest@coloradomusic.org in MP3 format so that contest staff may place the songs on Dropbox for each judge to listen from the privacy of their own homes. Please also attach a Lyric Sheet for each song. Make sure your lyric sheets match the lyrics on the recording.

The top rated songs will then be placed on the compilation CD. We will try to get 20 songs on but cannot promise that number due to the length of the songs total.

COMBO AND THE DMA PRESENT NOAH PETERSON’S WORKSHOP ON TOURING

Rather than split the attendance, the Denver Musicians Association and the Colorado Music Business Organization have decided to work together on a few workshops and clinics. Dick Weissman, a member of both groups, has set up a clinic for Monday, September 21st from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the DMA Hall at 1165 Delaware, Denver. The guest speaker is Noah Peterson on “How to Book Your Own Tour.” Noah is originally from Montana. He played saxophone in the Marine Corps Band. Dick met him in Portland where they both served 3 terms on the union board there. During that time, he put together a solo saxophone show, with looping. He has booked himself, literally, from Portland to Florida. No agent(s). He also presents looping festivals, with himself and other artists. He’ll be doing one at The Mercury Cafe in Denver, and one in the Springs. He now lives in San Antonio. He also plays washboard in a Zydeco band, and in various jazz and jazz-rock combos.

Noah owns his own record company, and has a bunch of things on You Tube. He has really done well with the BMI Live thing, and he’ll talk about that as well.
