Woody Creek Colorado Reserve Vodka has recently won the gold medal in the Vodka category at the 3rd Annual Denver International Spirits Competition. The company also picked up the silver medal for their 100% Potato Vodka.

Woody Creek Vodka is owned by John Hall of Hall & Oates (Darryl Oates has a tv show on the DIY network about restoring old houses called Darryl Oates Over-Hall!) The company is located at 60 Sunset Drive, Basalt, CO | 970-279-5110

The competition held earlier this year at the Omni Interlocken Resort in Broomfield, featured 200 spirits in a double-blind tasting by 14 spirits professionals. Some notable judges include Tom Fisher, founder of the Bourbon Blog; Dave Elger, host of Hot Mixology on the Cooking Channel; and Timothy Baldwin, food and beverage director of The Little Nell, in Aspen.

“What I like from being a judge is actually the process of really getting to decide what makes a spirit great in a blind scenario,” judge Tom Fischer recently told Westword magazine.

The spirit entries were judged on 100 point scale and also by price categories. Entries came in from all over the country. This event is unique, because it is the first regional competition of its kind.

“We modeled our competition pretty much after what is been done in San Francisco and in London, ” says co-founder Christopher J. Davies. “And we have the best judges, mainly from Colorado, but we have some coming from out of state, too.”

Gold medal winning spirits from the competition will be showcased at Pairsine, Chefs and Mixologist Competition later this summer but try their award winning vodka today!
