From MD Friedman: Wow! I just found out I made the final three of the Colorado Blues Society’s 2016 Peoples’ Choice Award for Blues Educator for my work with the Harmonicas for Health Program that we started to help seniors and respiratory patients to breathe more easily.
I want to thank Michelle Miller-Bowman Whitmore for her vision and grit in getting this program going at Longmont United Hospital and also at the Longmont Senior Center. I also want to thank Stephanie Willner of Frasier Meadows in Boulder and Hohner Harmonicas USA for helping us expand the program.
This program seems to be a powerful tool for improving the health and quality of life for many people with a wide variety of breathing issues. We started this program last August with the class shown in the video below and now have 3 -5 sessions a month scheduled in the Boulder County area. I would also like to offer to share what we have learned with any other harmonica players that would like to start similar programs in their area.
