Sister Swing – 1990-92

SISTER SWING Reunited!!! Yeahhh, we were swingin’ back in the day! The late great
Mary Ann Moore was our singer back in 1990 – 1992! Bassist Lorrie Baum and Laurie D are reuniting for some fun duos!

Lorrie Baum Bio
While studying trombone at the Music Academy in Vienna, Austria in 1967, Lorrie Baum took a
pause from her studies to join an all-girl band. For the next 13 months “The Soul Magics” traveled throughout Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, playing to sell-out crowds. After
returning to the USA she finished her studies at CU Boulder, earning a Bachelor of Music
Education degree.

Shortly thereafter she founded the all-women band “Raw Honey”, which would play an integral
part in the Colorado women’s movement, performing benefits for various Safe houses, Big Mama Rag Newspaper, and at various women’s events. The band also traveled through Colorado, Wyoming, and Idaho. Over the next decade Ms. Baum traveled with various bands
including Earl Cole, Nikki Dufrene from New Orleans, Airhart out of Kansas City, The Sunday
Ladies, and Wood And Street Talk.

Ms. Baum co-owned and operated “Hands-On Recording Studio” from 1981–87, where she
recorded and produced numerous songwriter and artist demos and taught classes in sound
recording. She also wrote and produced many of her own songs.

In 1990 she began teaching elementary and middle school band, orchestra, and jazz band in the
Denver Public Schools, which she continued to do until retiring in 2014. During this time she
also played with “Sister Swing”, a women’s blues/jazz group featuring Maryann Moore on
vocals. In 1998 she received her Masters Degree in Music Theory and Composition from the
University of Northern Colorado. Ms. Baum has had compositions published for both band and
string orchestra, and continues writing for school groups. She is an avid golfer, enthusiastic
traveler, and semi-professional photographer. She loves spending time with her two Maine Coon cats, Sadie and Rudy.
