Meghan Elizabeth Trainor (born December 22, 1993) is an American singer-songwriter, musician and producer best known for the song “All About That Bass”.

Trainor was born in Nantucket, Massachusetts on December 22, 1993. She grew up in Nantucket with a musical family. She has been writing songs since she was 11 years old. When Trainor was 13, her parents bought her a computer so she could produce songs. The family later moved to Cape Cod, Massachusetts so Trainor and her two brothers could attend Nauset Regional High School in nearby North Eastham, Massachusetts.

At age 17, Trainor attended the Durango Songwriter’s Expo and Big Al Anderson of NRBQ introduced her to Carla Wallace of Big Yellow Dog Music. Trainor signed as a songwriter with Big Yellow Dog shortly after her 18th birthday, while she was still in high school.

In 2011, Trainor self-released an album titled, “I’ll Sing With You” and wrote all the songs. She later went on several writing trips to LA, NY and Nashville and settled in Nashville full-time when she was 19. Since then, Trainor has had songwriting cuts with Rascal Flatts, Sabrina Carpenter, Macy Kate, The Common Kings, and many others. On one of those writing trips, she met and wrote with Grammy-nominated producer Kevin Kadish. In 2014, she wrote “All About That Bass” with Kadish and her publishing company told her that many artists might be interested in recording the song. L.A. Reid heard Trainor’s demo of the song and signed her to Epic Records, where she was able to release the song as a solo artist. The music video features Vine celebrity Sione Maraschino. Charm La’Donna choreographed the music video, which was directed by Fatima Robinson. Trainor’s debut album is expected to be released sometime in the fall of 2014.

Trainor cites Trinidadian soca music as a major influence. Other influences include Christina Aguilera, Frank Sinatra and ’50s style music. Trainor writes pop, reggae, hip hop, country and soca for other artists.
