MOVIE FOR JUNE: JERSEY BOYS: Directed by Clint Eastwood | The story of four young men from the wrong side of the tracks in New Jersey who came together to form the iconic 1960s rock group The Four Seasons.

The importance of music in Clint Eastwood’s life and films (he is a jazz pianist and composer, has scored many of his own films, and directed Bird, a biopic on jazz saxophonist Charlie Parker) is well documented, but he has never directed a musical. That changes this month with his adaptation of Jersey Boys, the Tony award-winning jukebox musical about the rise and fall of 1960s rock group the Four Seasons. Instead of casting a movie star, Eastwood opted to have John Lloyd Young reprise his Tony-winning role as Frankie Valli. He’ll be joined by Erich Bergen, Michael Lomenda, and Vincent Piazza, as well as Christopher Walken as mobster Angelo ‘Gyp’ DeCarlo.

Recommended by local musician John Bunzli on Facebook, 5/14/14: Any of y’all ever read “The Artist’s Way?” I have to say I love that book and it has been a huge help to me in reorganizing and re-prioritizing my life. I feel like I spend much more quality productive time on the things that really matter to me. And quite frankly it has helped me move through a big heap of fear. Now I know there will be more crap to wade through as time goes on, but you know what? I’m ready for it, bring it on world!!!
