Due to natural attrition, a couple of COMBO’s board members have had to move on. We are looking for new members who are really interested in helping other musicians with the “business” end of music! Our board meetings are held once a month, usually on the first Sunday of the month from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. (except for August). Since the meetings are held via telephone conference, you won’t have to go anywhere – or even get out of your pajamas if you don’t want! Please send a message to Barb Dye at President@coloradomusic.org if you are interested in helping out. Please add a short paragraph about why you would like to serve on the board and if you would be available to help out with special projects (such as the Guitar Show and Luthier Expo this coming weekend) but that is NOT a necessity.

AND because we hold telephone conference meetings, you can serve even if you live out of town such as Colorado Springs, Fort Collins, or Grand Junction!

Current Board Members are Barb Dye, Andy Ard, David Barber, Mark King, Johnnie Johnson, and Annette Cannon. Also assisting are Todd Myers, Esq., Steve Replin, Esq., and John Brick.

THE 2015 WESTWORD MUSIC AWARD WINNERS

Last weekend’s Westword Music Showcase, along with the Westword Music Awards, serve as our annual celebration of our state’s vibrant music scene. Colorado is home to internationally renowned experimental bands, pioneering folk artists, Grammy winners and much, much more. On most nights in Denver, you can see just about any kind of show you like, from bluegrass to hip-hop to hardcore punk. To help give you a place to start, we create a roster of some of the best up-and-coming artists in town as part of the Westword Music Awards.

To determine this year’s finalists, we asked over 200 of the state’s music experts, ranging from talent buyers to studio owners to fans, to nominate their favorite hometown acts.

The results were overwhelming, with more than 800 bands and artists receiving votes. The 213 finalists from that nominating process are listed here. In the end, over 2,000 people voted, and we’re proud to present the winners of this year’s Westword Music Awards! The victor in each category is designated by an asterisk .

Congratulations to all the nominees, and indeed to everyone involved in the Colorado music scene!

MEDICAL EMERGENCY FORCES NICKELBACK TO CANCEL NORTH AMERICAN TOUR DATES

LOS ANGELES (June 23, 2015) – Multi-platinum selling rock band NICKELBACK is forced to cancel all remaining dates of the second leg of the 2015 No Fixed Address North American tour due to lead vocalist Chad Kroeger being diagnosed with an operable cyst on his voice box.  Kroeger will undergo surgery in 3 weeks following vocal rest ordered by doctors.  Ticket refunds will be available at the point of purchase.  For more information please visit  http://www.nickelback.com/.

Nickelback cancelled shows over the weekend, hoping the additional rest and treatment would help but an unfortunate diagnosis from Kroeger’s doctor revealed a more serious scenario.  ““I am sorry I have to interrupt the party this summer and I am definitely not thrilled with the prospect of being silent for many weeks to come when I could be out there playing for our fans” shared Chad Kroeger. “I am relying on my doctor and his team to help get my voice back in good form as quickly as possible.”

Kroeger’s medical team anticipates a full recovery and the No Fixed Address tour will resume with their previously scheduled European run, in Helsinki, Finland on September 30th.

Nickelback is expected to return to North America in 2016.
