Tragedy has once again struck the Voice community. Only a week after 22-year-old The Voice U.S. finalist Christina Grimmie was gunned down in Orlando by a deranged fan, Alejandro “Jano” Fuentes, a top 10 contestant from The Voice Mexico (La Voz), has become a fatal victim of gun violence as well. According to multiple reports by CNN, The Chicago Tribune, and the Associated Press, Fuentes was shot to death in Chicago’s Brighton Park neighborhood, after celebrating his 45th birthday with friends.
The attack happened right in front of Tras Bambalinas, a Chicago school that Fuentes opened three years ago to teach young people performing arts. The day before the tragedy, the school posted a Facebook video of students singing “Happy Birthday” for Fuentes. A video of his final performance during his birthday celebration has also surfaced.

Alejandro Fuentes, a former contestant on Mexico’s version of “The Voice,” has died in Chicago after being shot multiple times, authorities told AFP.
The singer died Saturday afternoon “due to multiple gunshot wounds,” the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said.
The 45-year-old, who appeared on the show in 2011, was shot after celebrating his birthday on Thursday, according to the Chicago Tribune.
A gunman ordered Fuentes out of a car, and when Fuentes refused, he shot him multiple times, the Tribune said.
Fuentes’ death comes 10 days after that of singer Christina Grimmie, a former contestant on NBC’s “The Voice” who died June 10 after being shot at a concert in Orlando, Florida.
Her attacker, who shot and killed himself, was armed with two handguns, ammunition and a hunting knife and appears to have deliberately targeted the 22-year-old star.
Fuentes was shot on the same block as his performing arts studio for young people, Tras Bambalinas, where he worked and lived, the Tribune said.
No arrests had been made as of Saturday, it added.
