The judges have finished their work! After the scores were totaled and averaged, these songs were chosen to be on the compilation CD to be given out at the Durango Songwriters Expo last week at the Omni Interlocken Hotel & Resort in Broomfield, Colorado. These are in no particular order but “I Lose My Breath” by Rod Tanaka and the late Johnny Brown, received an almost perfect score from the judges (4.625 out of 5.0). The judges were given only numbers that were assigned to each song. No one knew who wrote the songs or who performed them. They were scored only on lyrics and melody (production, singers, instrumental work were not part of the scoring – except for the instrumental songs submitted).
To honor these songwriters and all those who entered our contest, we will be holding a special Awards and Showcase Event on Saturday night, October 29th starting at 7:00 p.m. at the Walnut Room, 3131 Walnut, Denver. The awards will also honor Colorado music businesses whom the COMBO board feels show exceptional customer service to the musicians of Colorado. An “After Party” will be held starting at 10:00 p.m. with the Adrienne O Band and then Ghostman. Adrienne and the members of Ghostman both had winning songs in this year’s contest (as well as a couple in previous years!) Admission is FREE! The first 50 people attending will receive a coupon good for $2.00 (two dollars) off your purchase of a meal or a drink. We will also hold some door prize drawings.
