MLC, Mechanical Licensing Collective
Join COMBO and special guest Ann Blonston of Airshow Mastering for a discussion about SoundExchange, an entity that collects royalties for you from other services like Spotify, CDBaby, iTunes, and more. We will discuss what they do, how it works, and what that means for recording artists. Additionally, we will dive into how you can make sure you get your share of those royalties, even as an independent artist. We will also have a representative from the Mechanical Licensing Collective – see press below.

Please join us on Monday, September 27th at 7:00 p.m. (MDT) The program will be hosted by COMBO Member Jamie Krutz.

This will be a live Zoom meeting, details below. A recording of the meeting will be made available to COMBO members a few days later.

As always, COMBO meetings are free, open to public, and open to all ages.

The Mechanical Licensing Collective (The MLC) can help.

Digital audio mechanical royalties – like performance royalties – can be an important part of any songwriter’s overall income, and The MLC’s mission is to make sure independent (or “self-administered”) songwriters just like you get paid the mechanical royalties they have earned.

Established by the historic Music Modernization Act of 2018, The MLC exclusively administers a new blanket license to Digital Service Providers (DSPs) that covers the use of all the music available on their platforms. Each month, The MLC collects mechanical royalties from DSPs and distributes those royalties to rightsholders. Since April, The MLC has paid out more than $130 million in mechanical royalties to its members, including thousands of songwriters. In order to get your monthly mechanical royalties, you must become a member of The MLC.

An MLC membership is FREE – by law, all services are provided by The MLC completely free of charge – and it’s easy to join through “Connect to Collect,” the process whereby you connect with The MLC so you can collect any mechanical royalties owed to you.
