By Jackson Langford, MusicFeeds | Facebook pages of Splendour, Falls Festival and Download have all fallen victim to Facebook’s historic banning of Australian news pages. Earlier today, it was revealed that Facebook had gone nuclear and prevented Australian news Facebook pages from sharing content, as well as Australian users posting links to news – either local or international – as well.
The change comes as Facebook’s retaliation to the Australian government’s proposed news media code, which would require Facebook to pay news outlets for their content.
“The proposed law fundamentally misunderstands the relationship between our platform and publishers who use it to share news content,” Facebook Australia and New Zealand’s managing director Will Easton wrote in a blog post earlier this morning.
“It has left us facing a stark choice: attempt to comply with a law that ignores the realities of this relationship, or stop allowing news content on our services in Australia. With a heavy heart, we are choosing the latter.”
But, it seems that pages that aren’t traditionally news have fallen victim as well. It has spread to the Facebook pages of Splendour In The Grass, Falls Festival and Download Festival.
