When Jahna & Jason Eichel opened Fort Collins’ first rehearsal studios, Higher Ground Rehearsal Studios, in November 2014, they knew they wanted to do more for local bands and Colorado music based tourism. In its second season, live at Higher Ground creates a behind-the- scenes video series from the studio. The project is filmed and co-produced by HYPHYTEK, a Denver and Fort Collins based video production team whose projects include meeting on the mountain, FoCoMX, and professional music video production that spans across many Colorado based bands.

The filming can take 4 to 5 hours and is filmed by Bryon Metcalf of HYPHYTEK. With close-ups of pedal boards, gear, and the musicians’ skills, Live at Higher Ground produces a music series for musicians by musicians. The sound is mixed, mastered, and edited by Higher Ground Rehearsal Studios co-owner Jason Eichel.

The rooms’ acoustics at Higher Ground were built for live set sound and the  stage room is the perfect setup for a music showcase. Higher Ground hopes the bands feel comfortable in their space and have gotten such tremendously positive feedback.

“Our favorite part, of course, would be an almost private live concert right in front of us. Jason and I also really love and appreciate getting to know our local bands on a personal level,” says Jahna Eichel, host and co-owner.

The first episode was released January 2015 and featured local Fort Collins band Wasteland Hop while the 2016 premiere episode features national act Lantern Society from Humble, Texas. The goal is two-fold — “We want to be able to showcase local and touring bands in Fort Collins. With the rapidly growing music scene we knew that entertaining a 21 and over crowd would give the artists a way to get their personalities showcased as well as their talents.”

Sound production and directing is done in-house by Jason and Jahna Eichel. “We’ve tried to facilitate a house party atmosphere where bands can relax in between shoots and the live performance. Bands should feel comfortable reaching out if they are interested in being featured. We are easy-going down-to-earth and love Colorado and it’s musicians!”
