The Nebraska American String Teachers Association (NeASTA) is now accepting entries for the 15th Annual Fiddle Tune Composition Contest. All composers are encouraged to submit fiddle tunes composed in the past year to NeASTA by May 15, 2017. The top three tunes will be announced in June 2017, published in “Stringing Along”, the NeASTA quarterly journal, and will be awarded $100/75/50 respectively.
Fiddling is a long-standing musical tradition brought to America from many parts of the world. Uniting people from different countries, cultures, and languages with its ability to communicate beyond words. Traditions both preserve history and evolve to create new history.
So it is with the 15th Annual Nebraska ASTA Fiddle Tune Composition Contest. As the fiddle tune composition contest is a vital tradition for encouraging composers and fiddlers with the creation of new fiddle tunes, it too is evolving to make use of technology and the ability to share ideas and information easily from anywhere.
Modifications include submitting fiddle tune compositions online with recordings, a diverse group of judges from the fiddling tradition, social media announcements of the winners, and increased prize awards for second and third places.
Continuing traditions include constructive feedback from judges, publication in the Nebraska ASTA “Stringing Along” publication, prizes awarded to the top three tune composers, and a public announcement of the tune winners.
The Nebraska chapter of the American String Teachers is looking forward to the tunes you, your students, friends and acquaintances submit for 2017 and hope that you will share this information with others.
